MKR was selected to perform an engineering study to analyze the Locks Creek and Cargill lift stations current capacity, upgrade capacity, alternatives and cost of alternatives that may increase the use of the Cross Creek WRF while simultaneously reducing loadings to the Rockfish WRF. The analysis also identified existing flows and forecast future flows over a 20 year period and their affects on the WRFs. The analysis included hydraulic modeling of pump stations, force mains, outfalls, development of diurnal curves for the blow-down of the PWC co-generation plant and various smaller sewer lift stations. The data prepared from the analysis will be utilized by the PWC to determine the effects of the Eastern Sanitary District and Norcress sewage flows on the Commission’s water reclamation facilities and lift stations. This knowledge will provide PWC with information to identify budget requirements for upgrade of water reclamation facilities. The study identified that a second proposed force main to be mounted on the railroad trestle crossing the Cape Fear River was not required saving PWC a substantial amount of money. |
