& Parking Lot Renovations

$4,075,000

The new Cumberland County Courthouse Plaza is an accessible, secure, and beautiful setting for the Twelfth Judicial District seat.  The Courthouse and adjacent Law Enforcement Center receive a constant flow of visitors and employees with over 100,000 cases processed annually.  What began as a project of extensive repairs to broken pavements, culminated in plans to fully develop the grounds of the Cumberland County Courthouse as a fitting symbol of the democratic way of life.

Visitors may arrive by a drop-off for pedestrians and then find their way around more easily.  The entire site is ADA compliant accessible to all.  The new atrium queuing space in the courthouse improves flow through security checkpoints.  New directional signage reduces visual clutter.  Extensive security design measures are imperceptible to the public.  There are public spaces for ceremonies such as a swearing in, and places to eat lunch and simply take a break.

Well grown trees will bring much needed shade.  The trees will help modify the microclimate allowing visitors to use the outdoor spaces for longer periods.  The expanded open ground reduces the impervious area and provides space to establish roots necessary for the trees to have a long life.

Project includes site planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, surveying, structural, electrical, mechanical, cost estimating, permitting and construction services for the Courthouse renovations.  Work included a 600 sf lobby addition, central plaza design, security improvements to the exterior perimeter, traffic and parking improvements, way-finding and regulatory signage, site decorative walls, bollards, lighting, security cameras and monitoring, plantings, site furnishings, hardscape design, streetscape, irrigation, ADA compliant access and safety improvements.  Project is being constructed while the Courthouse continues full operation.
