The project eliminated a city maintained retention pond by constructing a large drainage canal approximately 1 mile in length to the Cape Fear River. The watershed area exceeded 400 acres and detail watershed analysis was performed. The canal crossed US 301 with 8' x 8' precast concrete box culverts (one of the first to be used on NCDOT Highway) and an extensive detour plan was developed. Responsibilities included survey, design, traffic control, specifications and permitting.
